Dandelion  Taraxacum gilliesii

  • gillies-dandelion

Taraxacum gilliesii or Gillie's Dandelion is native to the Falklands and often found with Small Fern or on dry Diddle-dee heathland and is rather uncommon. Found on the Falklands, Tierra del Fuego, Andean Patagonia and New Zealand.

Taraxacum officinale

T. officinale was introduced from Europe. This bright yellow dandelion is rather larger and stronger than T. gilliesii and might be seen around Stanley and settlements, particularly on waste ground. It has a stout tap root and is not easily removed from gardens. Flowers November to January.
